2012 Weins-Prum Estate Riesling Feinherb
A bright German Riesling, just off-dry, with a touch fruitiness that makes it an easygoing, quaffable everyday wine. It is loaded with crisp apple and ripe peach, rounded out minerality and a juicy finish.
2012 Fox Run Dry Riesling
When German immigrants first planted Riesling, the wine they produced was known as Johannisberg Riesling, after a region in Germany. Today, Riesling is more commonly described as late harvest, semi-sweet or dry. This dry offering from Fox Run Vineyards is low in alcohol, at just 10.8 percent, and displays crisp citrus and mineral flavors.
Chef Pairing: CIDER BRAISED HAM, APPLE ONION COMPOTE ON A HOUSE MADE CHEDDAR BISCUIT
2012 Terredora Falanghina
One of Italy's great unsung white wines, 3 months lees ageing before bottling imbues the wine with added depth and texture, but no oak is used, so the wine retains a light and fruit-driven character. A brilliant all-rounder, with plenty of citrusy fruit and faint notes of apple and quince, with the merest hint of nutty complexity. This is made entirely in stainless steel. Bright, crisp, mineral-edged & brilliant.
2012 Cantine Del Taburno Falanghina
This dry white, native to the southern region of Campania, offers an intense yellow color and touches of ripe pineapple and pear. Soft and balanced in the mouth with a long, aromatic finish.
Chef Pairing: GAMBERI FRITI WITH LEMON THYME AIOLI
2011 Barrel 27 Right Hand Man Syrah
Blackberry, dark chocolate, framboise, blood orange and ganache are all showcased within
the creamy texture. Leather, Chinese 5 spice, cumin, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg and
graham cracker pie crust on the palate lead to a spicy structured finish.
2012 Bedrock North Coast Syrah
The 2012 Syrah North Coast is a multi-appellation blend from five separate vineyards that utilized 40% stems and 15% new French oak. It is a delicious, sexy, up-front Syrah meant for near-term consumption. With impressive levels of blackberry and acacia flower notes intermixed with licorice and charcoal, this wine should drink well for 5-7 years.
Chef Pairing: BEEF TENDERLOIN CROSTINI, ARUGULA PESTO, PECORINO ROMANO
2010 Brittan Vineyards “Gestalt Block” Pinot Noir
The Gestalt Block Pinot Noir comes from the southwest-facing and most exposed blocks in the vineyard, resulting in a wine that will always be transparent to its vintage and the unique site where these vines are planted. The 2010 vintage in the Willamette Valley was a cool, late-ripening vintage resulting in a wine of illusive, dark fruit, brambly blackberry and Italian plum in concert with brooding tones of cigar ash, cedar box, wet stones and conditioned leather. Black currants followed by raspberry coulis accompany the generous entry, supported by underpinnings of dark cacao, vanilla bean, wet tobacco leaf and river rock. The depth of fruit and polished tannins float on an unbroken stream of acidity that carries through to a long, elegant and thoughtful finish.
2011 Loring Wine Co. 'Close Pepe Vyd.' Pinot Noir
A big step up and a beautiful 2011 from the Santa Rita Hills, the 2011 Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard has a supple, seamless profile that’s hard to resist. Exhibiting plenty of sweet cherries, blackberry, spice, toast and hints of licorice, it flows onto the palate with a medium-bodied, rich and textured mouth feel that keeps you coming back to the glass. Slightly hedonistic, with an upfront feel, it will delight over the coming 4-5 years. Drink now-2018.
Chef Pairing: CRISPY DUCK, SWEET POTATO POLENTA, RASPBERRY COMPOTE
Cantine Vedova (For Due) Spumante Rose
Veneto wine-producing area
2009 Marques de Gelida Rose Cava
A serious rose, the 2009 Marques de Gelida Rose was made from 100% Pinot Noir and spent two years in the bottle before being released. It offers vibrant strawberry and cherry fruit intermixed with hints of herbs, earth and spice. The effervescence is intense as well as persistent in this medium-bodied, fresh, cleanly made sparkling rose.
Chef Pairing: PETITE PANINI WITH BRIE, APPLE CHUTNEY AND APPLE BUTTER
